    How to be more likable

Research and life experience both show: when it comes to whether or not you get that promotion at work, it's not really your job performance that matters -- it's how well-liked you are. And despite what everyone thinks, when it comes to deep, satisfying friendships or relationships, it isn't your looks or assets or accomplishments that matter -- again, it's how likable you are.

So here's some advice to help you be more likable. It's really very simple.

    1. Complain less.

No one but a miserable person likes a whiner or a grumbler.

    2. Appreciate more.

Life is like a well-stocked salad bar, a mix of things you like and things you don't like. Focus on what you prefer, ignore what you don't.

    3. Focus more on the "we" feeling."

Remember that we're all in this together. Share and play nicely with others.

    4. Choose your friends wisely.

Stay away from the chronically unhappy. They'll only drag you down and make you unhappy too, and unhappy people aren't very likable.
